Glory on the Mountain | Luke 9:28-36 | Pastor Philip Miller
Glory on the Mountain
Scripture: Luke 9:28-36
Speaker: Pastor Philip Miller
“Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, Hail th’ incarnate Deity!
Pleased as man with man to dwell, Jesus our Immanuel.”
- Hark! The Herald Angels Sing - Charles Wesley
In the incarnation, Jesus is God incognito. He is undercover, veiled, and among us in secret. Until Luke 9:28-36, when the veil is lifted and His glory is revealed.
1) The Glory
Jesus is Gloriously Transfigured
o Moses and Elijah appear on the mountain and see Jesus for who he really is.
2) The Tents
The Kingdom is Gloriously Tangible
o Peter asks to put up tents for Moses, Elijah, and Jesus.
o But he had forgotten that Jesus’ path to the crown must first pass through the cross.
3) The Cloud
The Father Gloriously Testifies
o “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!”
o Peter followed Jesus through the cross to the crown!
Takeaway: Jesus is our Transfiguring Glory
You will be glorious in Christ!
C. S. Lewis once preached a sermon called “The Weight of Glory:"
“...There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilization-these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit-immortal horrors or everlasting splendors.”

The Royal Road Scripture: Luke 9:18-27 Speaker: Pastor Philip Miller Chapter 9 of the Gospel of Luke forms a hinge in the narrative. Up to this point, the key question has been, “Who is this Jesus?” And in Luke 9, that question begins to be answered and we see His glorious identity be revealed. From this point on, Jesus is moving inexorably toward Jerusalem and to the crucifixion that awaits hi...

Our Mission in this Moment Scripture: John 20:19-21 Speaker: Dr. Ed Stetzer On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said...

Finding Our Place in the Story Scripture: Various Passages Speaker: Pastor Philip As we wake up in this universe, we find ourselves in the midst of a story that is already unfolding. But what is the story about? And how do we find our place in the story? The Bible tells us we’re living in God’s story. It’s the story of a God who is on a mission to glorify His name by redeeming all people. It is...

Believe Speaker: Pastor Larry McCarthy Scripture: John 4:1-26 Reputations are fragile things...you can spend a lifetime crafting a good reputation only to see it shattered by a moment of weakness, a lapse in judgment, and by sin. What do we do with our past? Are we always under the cloud, the indictment of our past actions? Today, in John chapter 4, we have the privileges of pursuing what we he...

The Training of the Twelve Scripture: Luke 9:1-17 Speaker: Pastor Philip Miller In the Book of Acts-which is the second part of Dr. Luke’s two-volume set of historical works-we find Jesus’ core disciples, the Apostles, turning the world upside down. They’re boldly preaching and going to the ends of the earth to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus! But that’s not where they began. Before Jesus showed u...

In the Care of Jesus Scripture: Luke 8:40-56 Speaker: Pastor Philip Miller Have you ever noticed that the heroes we most admire-in the books we read and in the films we watch-always combine the paradoxical traits of grit and grace? And the paradox of those traits is important. It’s easy to be strong and grow hard and calloused. It’s easy to be sensitive and grow soft and battered. In other word...

The Commander Scripture: Luke 8:22-39 Speaker: Pastor Philip Miller You know that moment in a superhero movie where all of a sudden the hero’s true identity is revealed, usually to a close friend? As an audience member, in that moment it’s like you’re in on the secret. In the Gospel of Luke, we’ve seen Jesus revealing bits and pieces of who He is. Everyone’s asking, “Who is this Jesus?” But tod...

Take Care Then How You Hear Scripture: Luke 8:1-21 Speaker: Pastor Philip Miller It's human nature to not hear as well as we think we do. I enjoy listening to you and I listened to and I listened and I cried let the part I heard you say when someone says they're in a better place that's a lie. The better place for him is when he was here with me and his children it was my son my only son and I don't like it when people say they're in a better place because that sounds stupid to me why would they even say something like that. My son was in a better place when he was here with me and his three children but now he's gone can my heart is broken and I don't know how to put it back together it's been 6 years and I still can't do anything that I used to love to do. I can't do anything that we used to do together as a family my daughter's always say Mom do you want to go with us to the beach or to the park whatever do you want to go barbecue the answer is no I don't. And the reason why I don't do anything anymore is because me and my children did everything together all the time just about every other weekend we were doing something fun but when I lost my son that broke my heart I don't want to do anything anymore I don't have no desire to do anything anymore without him I miss him so much sometime I watch the front door to see if he's going to come and not can say Mom open the door. All I want to do is hear his voice again I can't even dream of him if I just had one good dream just to know my baby is all right I'll be all right at least I think I will my brother tells me it's not for me to understand why he's gone but I really do need to understand did I do something wrong for the person that took my son from me did I make this person do this to my son maybe one day I understand or maybe one day somebody will tell me but right now I'm still trying to figure it out just saying.

He talks about his conviction before coming to faith. Conviction comes from the Holy Spirit and it is the working of the Spirit that brings people to faith. People who are not being convicted by the Holy Spirit cannot truly come to Christ. As the scriptures say, "No one can call Jesus Lord except by the Holy Spirit". God gives His Spirit to those He knows as His, and He gives them to Christ. That is how we are born again to be the children of God, not of our will, but by God's will. God shows His great power and grace by saving the most wicked of sinners. People who we would determine as completely lost, but the power of the Gospel saves them. Romans 1:16 Thank the Lord for raising up this fine preacher.

Please pray for me and his family to mourn like those who have hope. I don’t want us to drown in sorrow and look away from God.

Reading the NT word for word, I have found 'GOD THE FATHER' THIRTY TIMES'! Wow! How many times did I find 'God the Son'? or/and 'God the Holy Spirit'? Oh dear! ZERO times! I asked myself "if the 'trinity' is the 'central doctrine of the Christian faith', then WHY cant I find a SINGLE definition of it? Since I have been warned by Paul at Acts 20:28-30 that "men would rrise & speak twisted things', I have decided to stick to th NT & not heed the explanations about God & Jesus that came well afterwards! I love the Word of God, not men!

I lost my father April 16th in a very unexpected way. Surgery complication that led to multiple strokes and heart attacks that eventually left him brain dead. I’m 25. My dad was 45 when I was born. He lived to 70 and had 27 years of marriage with my mother. I’m so broken and lost and I thought my grief would take me away from god, but it’s pushing me closer because I don’t know what else to do.
